I love love love your station! After trying to tune in to so many FM stations on my car radio, I accidentally found your station on AM and am now a devoted listener! Thank you for such a wonderful array of jazz, contemporary music. Keep up the great work!
I listen in my truck at the Chrysler plant in belvedere. From the lake Geneva station. Can't hear it in rockford. I think it would be a hit there. LUV radio might be receptive to carry some programming.
Well, arent you guys a rare gem!! Between you and WFAQ-LP, this place has got to be the music centroid of ... well... just about anywhere!
I picked up on your station about the first of the year. I love the mix of great music, past and present! Please continue keeping this music alive! This station is an oasis in the desert of standard radio! Thank You!
This Valediction is dedicated to the finest few months of Chicago Radio and the hosts -Skinny Sheahan and Mike Houlihan. In this all too brief epoch -Good news replaced tiresome rants; community service was valorized; wit flowed like honey-dew vine water and God's Grace showered through the air-waves. Ubi Sunt - Skinny and Houli!
Such sweet music and love songs! This station is so apropos for Chicago. Love your slogan: "Timeless Cool"--says it all. All my favorite songs/artists/genres. Thank you!
I like Janet planet because she plays the music that I really like. I listen to this station every night.
Keep playing the good old real music...it's hard to find.
The Skinny and Houli Show is great. I have been listening since their beginning!! They do a great job connecting with the Chicago land area. Their format is fantastic and the way they touch the community is great! Keep it up!! Thanks!! A loyal fan
I found you one night, by accident, don't remember what night about 10 days ago, could not find the phone number but here I am. Thanks from this old broad (77 1/2).
AMAZING music!
Where else can you navigate to on the radio dial and hear stories like the one told by Judy Roberts about her entry into the jazz vocal world by way of special request, followed by the frightful clatter of a gun against a table top?! I think that what Mike Jeffers has created with this jazz radio show is the type of setting where, as you sit in your own living room, you feel as if you've been transported to a jazz club, after-hours. The band is relaxing and enjoying a drink after a late night set, and trading stories about their best (and worst) gigs, their challenges, musical theory, how they market themselves- (you name it!!) - and you've joined them at their table! The stories are incredible. The pacing- fantastic. The live music- a joy! Props to everyone who makes this show a possibility:)! I'll be listening:)
I set my cell phone alarm for 6pm EVERY DAY! Never want to miss it! Everyone I tell about this station loves it too now! I wish we could listen to The Avenue ALL DAY on the radio so I could enjoy you in my car and when I'm away from my computer! Janet Planet, You're Great!
HEARD YOU ALL ON MY WAY TO WORK IN THE EARLY MORNING (3 AM)...AND WOW!!! THAT WAS SOME GOOD LISTENING!!! I SET MY RADIO DIAL AND HOPEFULLY THE RIDE HOME WILL BE JUST AS GRAND!!
Just wanted you guy's to know that I love listening to you BOTH! I am a younger kid, who works for the City, ....CPD. I look forward to hearing your show every week!! Hope your show does well.
SKINNY AND HOULI ARE GREAT RADIO PERSONALITIES, AND THEY ARE ALSO VERY STRIKING FIGURES. IF YOU LOOK AT THEM IN DAYLIGHT, IT'S LIKE BEING STRUCK !!................
We Chicagoans truly needed The Avenue!! I awaken at 3AM and before the coffee and dogs, I switch on The Avenue to listen to the very best of best. Thank you ever, you make my day!!!
Tuned in while scanning the radio and in space of 20 minutes Al Green, Tom Waits, Eartha Kitt.. you guys are my new favorite radio program.. to bad your not 24/7.. yet?
I was just scanning the Internet looking for a "different" type of radio station where I can relax and think back at the same time....and I think I have found it. I have just bookmarked your station. Keep on playing what you're playing.
I found your station on AM 1550. I like the music. I listen all day.
Just learned of your station. Have attended MJF here in California since 1971 and very much like what I've heard on your station! I'll be arriving in Chicago on the 25th of this month (March) and intend to listen during the 4 days I'll be there. I am also planning on hitting two or three Jazz clubs in your amazing city - "Going to be Great!"
I like the music. Right now I'm listening to a live broadcast. Keep up the good work. I'm 64 and I'd just like to say "far out" like I did in my hippie days. Thanks.
Hi! I tuned in to listen to the Skinny & Houli Show. Have listened to a few of their earlier broadcasts in February. I decided to keep the website up and was glad that I did. I am now listening to Janet Planet - Planetary Rotations. I love the various selections she has chosen! Jazz, Dean Martin, really fun to listen to this program - almost as good as Skinny & Houli. Glad I discovered; I should listen to you more than just for Skinny & Houli. annr
Tuned in for Skinny & Houli-they're great. Stayed for the great music format-unpredictable but what a mix of jazz and standards. Keep it up.
Very informative, I really like the events in the area that Skinny and Houli spoke of. This way people can get together at these gatherings and enjoy life.
The Skinny and Houli show is a welcome addition to Chicago's radio lineup. Keep up the good work.
I love the Skinny and Houli show. It is fun, entertaining and informative without the boring. These 2 personalities are great together. Keep more of their shows coming.
Stumbled onto your station trying to find the Bulls Broadcast, Great Mistake!!! Love it, keep it going, please.
Just found you what a great station. Thank you for a evening of great listening!
Saturday night, a little "shaken and stirred", I go to dial my radio to WLS for the Kim Komando Show. Slipped right past it to 950 and I'm glad I did. The 2nd best thing that ever happened to me. Keep playing these tunes and I'll keep spreading the word...
I spent 2 years living in Chicago before coming back in France in 09. When I have the chance to listen online; this great radio which is Avenue 950, it is kind of staying out there remembering all the wonderful times we had with my wife and the kids. Thanks a lot "Avenue"
The Skinny and Houli Show is entertaining. Maybe expand it to 3 hours?
I heard the Skinny & Houli Show by accident last week. I'm hooked. Great honest Banter. We need more of this in these difficult times. I love your format!
I've been tuning in to This is Chicago Jazz for a while now and really enjoying it. The interviews with musicians are really funny and interesting. I didn't know half that stuff was going on in their lives and their performances. The live band in studio the other night was tremendous. It was cool to hear a song live, then listen to them talk about how it came to be. A great experiment! Keep going!
Great music! I first got hooked on this format listening to Sid McCoy in the fifties, nothing better out there for a guy like myself. All music, no noise.
Thank you, for filling a vacuum that has been missing to long on the AM band. Early Saturday I heard, "Miles Davis's Tutu", I've been checking the station every since. Keep it up!
The Skinny and Houli Show on Wed. 6-8 PM is the return of real radio. No ranting, no attacks - just truth and laughs! This show's a hit.
I grew up in Chicago, live in Las Vegas now. Listened today for the first time. Man it's like being at home again . The jazz scene is my favorite when I visit I am either playing at a club set or listening . I am hooked; you are my lifeline to information on what's happening currently in the clubs.
Add some more Bossa Nova, Bacharach, Diana Krall and Sinatra and you've got your best walking commercial with me! Thanks for the tunes...
I just found your station tonight and absolutely LOVE it! I want to stay up all night and listen to it. I want to learn as much about it as I can. I LOVE the wide variety of artists that you play. I hope you are on the air for a very long time! Can't wait to share this station with my friends. I am anxious to hear what your daytime format is as well.
Mike Jeffers is a terrific Chicago Jazz Artist and we really enjoy listening to his radio show every Tuesday night. It streams perfectly up here in Wisconsin and we never miss Mike's show.
Thanks for the wide variety of music...it reminds me of some of the eclectic stations of the 60's. Keep it up!! Please go FULL TIME!
I found this to be a very interesting and informative two-hour session. The programs and guests were quite entertaining. I actually was quite surprised that the two hours just flew by. Mike keeps the interviews/conversations flowing smoothly, never leaving a dull moment. I was quite impressed since I like jazz, yet I'm not a big "jazzet," but I'm getting into liking jazz more and more. I really appreciate the history and this program really brings that to light. Thanks, Mike! You're great! Karin
Thanks for streaming! I'm listening to your great radio-station from Munich/Germany. what a nice mix of music. Best wishes from Germany!
My compliments for the radio station and Happy New Year!
Just love the station and how you play so many different songs that are never heard on any other station. Love it thank you
Outstanding music, do not stop playing this music. It is absolutely the best !
Turned on the radio in the middle of the night, couldn't sleep, found this jewel. Oh man...nice!
I absolutely love this station!! I work from 5am until 11:30am so I play you in the car on the way to work and during my setup time. I turn you on again in the evening. This is the only channel I listen to that never feel like switching from. You have programmed just the right mix of old and new music and alot of artists I would never hear anywhere else. I never get tired of this channel. You guys are fantastic!
Just happened to put my AM tuner on scan. After one song I saved your station as a preset. I've been looking for a station that played some of the songs that WCGO/Chicago Heights played. Their motto was Timeless Classics, so I guess I've upgraded to Timeless Cool.
Found you while surfing with my GE Superadio III ... you have a strong hi-fi signal tempered with that AM murkiness that gives your sound a romantic, distant touch. You have a great combo of old-school male and female vocalists and classic and modern jazz. This is especially needed after WBEZ-FM dropped its nightly jazz programming, and the esteemed WDCB-FM broadcasts whatever in the evenings. Looking forward to streaming your Internet feed via optical cable into my home theater but also will continue to listen on AM!
Well done music mix! It's nice to know that there are still terrestrial radio stations willing to do something innovative! It doesn't matter if it's on AM! I'll be tuning in (albeit while on the 'net) on a regular basis. I was a little puzzled to hear Stevie Ray Vaughan as I didn't think a song such as "Pride And Joy" would be appropriate for this format. I hope this can be duplicated in other markets as well! May I make a suggestion that the station might want to as a fundraiser and promotion hold a dance featuring a live big band. Also, sponsor concerts and maybe a car show.
Fantastic sound...change nothing--and thank you!
This program is vital to those of us who listen late at night and have no other means of hearing music that is so well attuned to our feelings and emotions.
I listen on the internet - great station - great music
Wow, how excellent to hear Alan Gresik and the Swing Shift Orchestra from the Green Mill! This is a great addition to the evening lineup. It's great to hear "fresh" big band music on the air, and coming from such an historical jazz venue makes it extra special. I hope it becomes part of the lineup each week - I'll be listening.
was i pushed? was it fate? somehow, LITERALLY I turned the dial and found your late night early a.m. -janet planet...! what an amazing collection of almost everything i would listen to on my own. being a musician, coming home late, or being an old man and waking up early-yours is the best friend an insomniac can have. thanks.
I'm so glad that the streaming is up on 950 am! Now I can listen at work with no need to schedule varieties of music that I like/love.. THANKS for the new/old format of continuous music and less talk.
What a treat! This is so CIVILIZED for my unrefined ears!
It was terrific to hear cartoonist Charley Krebs on the air. I've been a fan of his work for many years. Great show!
Great to hear the "synergy " between Mike Jeffers and Charley Krebs after reading it in the magazine venue for so long. 950 Am is a welcome addition for jazz in general. Nothing "tired and old" with these two.. Frankly just the opposite more like " classic , timeless with the perfect measure of humor..."! It is a recipe success so keep it going.
Love the music. Best blend of old and new on the radio period. 950 is the place on the dial!
avenue950 Its cool ! the best music!
Anything Charley Krebs is involved with has got to be cool, he is the father of "Cool."
Wishing the best of best, we need Avenue950 in these times and hearing the classics is uplifting.. thank you, thank you!!!
Avenue950 is breathe of fresh air. This market longs for some classic of traditional jazz music. Pray that Avenue950 has staying power and longevity. The mix of music is "off the chain", as they say. The classics with the not yet classic. Jazz with rhythm and blues; with Ray Charles, B.B. King, John Coltrane, and even some Take Five by Dave Brubeck. Best part of your station is that there are few, few commercial interruptions which disrupts flow of good music.
Perfect music to listen to in the middle of the night. Great mix of old and new
Where have you been hiding? I'm so happy I found your station one evening while trying to flee from the tiresome news, talk, rap and rock. The Avenue is so refreshing and relaxing. I enjoy listening to the wide variety of music you offer. Please stay on the air for a long, long time.
Stumbled across 950 this evening and will be a regular at home and in the car
A nice change from the din of the crowd!
I love the Music! Just please hurry and set up the Online Streaming so I can listen at work! Great Job and Good Luck!
I LOVE ALL OF YOUR MUSIC CHOICES! I DISCOVERED YOUR STATION ABOUT THREE WEEKS AGO.
Nice to hear Michael Tomlinson on the radio! What a nice surprise.
I don't know how I found you, but you're a lifesaver. Those talk shows that have taken over AM radio are for the birds. I thought I'd never hear music on AM radio again. You made my day. I listen to you every night from 6 P.M - 5 AM. I'm going to tell everybody I know about you. AM radio is just not the same without good music. Great job.
How refreshing! Like a cool summer breeze. I'm glad jazz has returned to AM radio in Chicago; it's been a long dry spell.
Great!! I drive limo and my customers love the sound!
I love the new format. It's great to have a station like this on the air.
A refreshing format. You guys really have me hooked!
Avenue 950 is on our kitchen radio throughout the evening.
Chicago just got a whole lot cooler, and that's hard to do.
LOVE THE STATION and the new format!!!
Wow!, what a great line-up of tunes! I'm telling everyone I know about your station. Great selections and great job.....wishing you much success and will be a loyal listener!
I absolutely love the format. I discovered your station while waiting in the doctor's office in early April. I checked the dial setting of their radio and immediately tuned it in when I got back out to my car. Have it on in the car all the time. This area definitely needed a station that plays something other that Country or Oldies. It seems that so often I find a great station with smooth Jazz and then suddenly the format is changed to heavy metal or rock. I have also noticed that you have recently expanded your play list to new artists. Very nice.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I heard "Spirit Voices" by Paul Simon last night on the radio and I was so pumped I drove around so I could hear the whole song. It was simply wonderful. What great diverse selections you guys are choosing from. Keep up the good work. I love the "album cuts" that didn't make the "pop" charts.
I would like to take this opportunity to provide positive feedback concerning your station. I think it is excellent. I really like the programming and the musical choices you have on the programs. I am tuned in on all the time. Keep up the good work.
My daughter introduced me to your station today during a car trip and I love it. Thanks for making it possible to listen to the radio again. I've been using CD's and online radio programming for years to find this kind of mix. I'm SO thankful for your format. You've gained a faithful listener as this music is exactly what I want tohear! Kudos to you!
I came across your station the other day. I have not listened to the radio for several years, because no station in the area plays what I want to listen to. But I was running an errand, and my ipod was in the house. I started scanning the frequency and much to my surprise I found MUSIC. On my way home from work today, I wanted to give you a standing ovation, but I was in the car at the time.
